Maharaja Srischandra College Library was started along with the establishment of the College on 1964-65 in order to cater the academic needs of the faculty, students and other members of the college. The college prides itself on having a well-collected and spacious library having with its books arranged in text books, reference books, journals, periodicals, magazines of both general and special interest, the library benefits the students and the teachers. The college library, since then, has gone from strength to strength to live-up to the expectation of its immediate clientele.

LOCATION

The college is situated on the Bhupen Bose Avenue, Kolkata and very closed to Shyambazar five points. The Central Library is situated on 2^nd floor of the main building of the college having a 1496 Sq. ft reading room with 80 sitting capacities and the areas of stock room are 612 sq. ft.

Monday to Friday : 2.30pm to 9pm
Saturday : 5 pm to 8.30pm

LIBRARY MEMBERS/USERS

The Membership of the college Library is open to the teachers, part time teachers, students and non-teaching staff. All categories of members are entitled to borrow books from the Central Library.

TECHNICAL WORKS

The Library use the 21st edition of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme to classify books, journals and other reading materials and all books are entered into the SOUL software for OPAC purpose.

MAINTENANCE OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

Preservation: Dusting and Pest Controlling has been done on regular basis.

Binding: Old books and back issues of the journals are bounded regularly.

LIBRARY AUTOMATION

The College Authority has been taking appropriate steps to computerize the college library. The Library has installed one Personal Computer in the library, and procured a standard library management software SOUL by INFLIBNET. A book database has been created and computerized catalogue is done through this software. Faculties and students can search catalogue using OPAC service.

INTERNET CONNECTIVITY

A highs peed broadband connectivity has been set up in the library. Students, teachers can access internet with desktop computer or laptop computer in any place of the reading room.

E-RESOURCES

The Library has already been taken membership of n-list, an e-resources consortium by INFLIBNET. Teacher can access this facility in remote place and student can also use this one.
